Longterm Maintenance Plan

Keep your house in top condition with a long-term maintenance plan
Is your roof in order? What about the masonry and joints? Are the frames still sealed with paint? And are your down pipes clear? Regular maintenance is necessary to keep your house in optimum condition. It helps to draw up a maintenance plan so that nothing is overlooked and your house will retain its value.

  Executive John Versteeg

Executive John Versteeg: “The Cannenburgh is responsible for the maintenance of some the Artis zoo buildings. We maintain the little worker’s houses outside the zoo. We even worked between the vultures!”

However sound and durable modern construction materials may be, in the long run they suffer from the adverse effects of rain, snow, hail and sunshine. Trace and remedy any defects in good time, so that you can limit both the material and the financial damage.

Thorough inspection
A house is a consumption article requiring maintenance. Just because your house is newly built or renovated, it doesn’t mean that you won’t need to examine it for a few years. It’s advisable to make a thorough inspection at least once a year. You can do this yourself, or bring in a specialist: BouwGarant and Certified Restoration contractor The Cannenburgh, for example.

Especially the roofs, gutters, masonry and frames should be carefully inspected. This is best done by a specialist who knows what to look for. For instance, many people never dare venture onto their roof and therefore don’t know what condition it’s in.
Perhaps some tiles slipped during a recent storm, or rainwater cannot drain properly because the gutters are clogged. If not quickly remedied, such inadequacies can lead to leaks.

Maintenance contract
Backlogged maintenance can be avoided by concluding a maintenance contract, which will take all the worries out of your hands. Hans Valks – director of a contracting company specialized in maintenance, renovation and restoration activities – told us: ‘Wait too long before carrying out maintenance and see the costs run sky-high. A contractor will systematically handle the entire house so that no part escapes attention. For instance, the horizontal parts of the woodwork are painted every two years, and every five years all the woodwork is painted. We also carefully examine the masonry, joints and ironmongery. The customer receives documented information of when maintenance rtakes place and what the costs will be.
