Machined Carpentry Work

Most Dutch houses and monuments are mainly made up of various kinds of wood. For instance, the beams, rafters, rafter trusses, floors, frames, doorposts, the veranda, etc.
In a few words: enough parts of your house to be maintained or restored. Through the centuries, each building – whether large or small, old or new – used this material, which was easy to process. In this, a great many different techniques were used.

Effective restoration of woodwork therefore requires specific expertise and treatment. This is why The Cannenburgh has restoration work carried out under its own management, the only way to guarantee that the restored wood constructions are of high quality.

  Workshop carpenter Theo

Theo is our carpentry specialist. There is no profile he cannot make. Theo: “They no longer learn that at school anymore!” He teaches The Cannenburgh’s students in his workshop. His biggest treasure is the box whith self-cut profiles for casings and doors. "Look at it, measure it, ‘carpenter eye’ and then cut it."

Of course, traditional work methods, and knowledge of and respect for the material must be applied. This can only be done by professionals with pride – professionals who know what they’re doing and have extensive knowledge, whether they’re restoring an original Old-Dutch leaded window or an affected beam; both must be handled knowing what you’re doing, and with good tools and due respect.

  Carpenter Gerard

Many of the people employed by The Cannenburgh are working there for years. Gerard: "I really like that, we think alike, it is a good team. That is one of the reasons I work at The Cannenburgh. We all stand behind same the product. For example, a window never leaves our workshop unpolished. It has to be perfect or else it cannot go. What I give, Theo makes it exactly. You get a good product in your hands.”

The restoration of an original leaded window requires much craftsmanship, but the result always generates satisfaction. And that’s precisely what De Cannenburgh guarantees. We leave nothing to chance.
